Why do wave occur?

The celestial bodies, sun and moon effect over Earth, but mainly is because there is principle that fluids (water and others) seek their own level. This is why the ocean is dynamically in a perpetual movement... also read elsewhere in this page relevant to the issue of global warming.

What do we mean by the World Ocean?

First, the word ocean is originated from the Greek oceans, meaning river. The Greeks believed that the oceans where a great river flowing around the earth.

Thus getting back to our question, is the large, interconnected body of saltwater that covers over 70% of our Global Village. The oceans that comprise this vast interconnection are:

  • Pacific
  • Atlantic
  • Indian
  • Antarctic
  • Arctic

It is of interest to indicate that the boundaries of the global oceans are determined by the International Hydrographic Bureau, Monaco.

Why are oceans important to the Global Village?

The events of December 2004, 8.9 sysmic creating a tidal wave tsunami, have made us realize the innevitable... From cradle to grave, the ocean is the cradle and the nurturer of life. They provide moisture, influences climate behaviour. Without moisture our village would be like planet Mars or Venus - staggeringly hot and carbon dioxide filled.

Further, the oceans currents transport heat, oxygen, nutrients, plants and animals around the globe. The ocean itself provides food and other necessities.

Why the Earth looks blue from space?

Because of its oceans. Using a prism light can be broken up into an array called spectrum; orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet - white is the resultant of mixing the spectrum. Thus the ocean waters act as a prism, but as light travels into the water, the red, orange, and yellow colours are absorbed more quickly than blue light. Blue light can penetrate below 30 Mts. in depth, and which is why the clear mid-ocean water looks blue on a sunny day. In coastal regions the greenish colour responds to sediments arriving from river and the vast life of the coast (coral reefs, etc.) and alike.

What percentage of our global village water is held in the oceans? 97%!

What is sea water? Water found in oceans or sea. A molecule combining one atom of Oxygen and two of Hydrogen and ions of salt (NaCL) and other dissolved materials (chlorides and sulphates of calcium, magnesium, sodium, and calcium carbonate) with trace elements / minerals.

What is Global Warming?

Certain gases in our Village influence how much of the Sun's energy is absorbed and how much of it is bounced back to space. These gasses act like glass in a greenhouse, trapping energy emitted from the ground and making our Village inhabitable - it affects in the heat-sink effect of the oceans. The atmosphere warms with the excess of this entrapment, the process is call greenhouse warming.

Because greenhouse gases include many of the manmade air pollutants, scientist believe that the pattern of warming will continue.

Note - read on energy, the alternate after oil it can actually revert the pollution and climate process of warming.

This global warming can lead to melting of ice and increase the frequency and intensity of climate phenomenon's like tsunamis, hurricane, twisters / tornados, typhoons... The problem may not be in Global Warming, as this is a symptom of population growth. But who is to tackle the issue of population grtowth? So is best to blame it on global warming as a root cause.
